Top photos are a couple more of our RiverGrace BBQ party on Dragon's Boat Festival. Over 30 people attended.
We had a couple of special events this week. The first one was last Thursday, which is a public holiday in Hong Kong… Dragon Boat Festival. I invited the church family to come to our house for a barbecue, fellowship, and whatever else they wanted to do. Over 30 attended. As it was very hot outside, most just stayed indoors and talked, rested, and ate.
It has been raining for several days straight, and it was supposed to rain on that day as well, however, the rain held off until later that night, so it turned out to be a nice day. The Filipino ladies spent some of the morning in the kitchen preparing the lunch, while some of our guys barbecued the meat out in our small garden.
After fattening ourselves on all the delicious food, some of the ladies went down to the nearby beach, and I led a few others on a walk of a bit over 3 kilometers. It was a wonderful family gathering!
The other special event happened last evening. It was the 13th graduation ceremony of the United Wesleyan Graduate Institute. There were 17 students who graduated with degrees, and about eight others who completed a 2-year certificate course, offered by our local congregation, the Hong Kong Evangelical Church.
One of the graduates, Raymond To, did a four-month internship at RiverGrace. I met his family for the first time. Raymond was one of the graduates who shared about their experience in the seminary, and I was a bit surprised, but pleased, for the free advertisement of our church. He primarily shared about his experience there, as he was introduced to our international family. Hey shared about some of the things He learned, especially about the asylum-seekers and refugees in Hong Kong, and how, although their lives are difficult, they still have a lot to offer and share spiritually that's beneficial to all.
Other than those two events, the week was rather normal, except for all the rain. Regarding that, we learned that we have a leak from the outside that comes in under the washer and dryer, In the kitchen area. We'll have to have someone come and look at it, because every time we get a heavy rain, the water comes in.
Ace, my son-in-law shaved off his beard last weekend, which means he is returning to work. He returns on Tuesday morning. He still sometimes has some back pain, but otherwise is doing well. Thank you for your prayers for him.
That's the news for this week, Make it a great week! Blessings, Dave

Death Notice (Author Unknown)
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend by the name of Common Sense who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He will be remembered as having cultivated such valued lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm and that life isn't always fair.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.
Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student only worsened his condition!
It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, spilled it in her lap, and was awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion, his daughter, Responsibility, and his son, Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers, My Rights and Ima Whiner. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. John 10:11
Real meaning to your life is found in the glorious dawn of God’s story, which breaks into full revelation in the Person of Jesus Christ. What an astounding truth! What a life-changing message!
Because He emptied Himself of all but love, you can be filled.
Because His body was broken, your life can be whole.
Because His blood was shed, your sin can be forgiven.
Because He submitted to injustice, you can forgive.
Because He finished His Father’s work, your life has worth.
Because He was forsaken, you will never be alone.
Because He was buried, you can be raised.
Because He lives, you don’t have to be afraid.
Because He was raised, you can be strong.
Because He reached down to you, you don’t have to work your way up to Him.
Because His promises are always true, you can have Hope!
Praise God for just giving us Jesus!

Little Hope was practicing the violin in the living room while her father was trying to read in the den.
The family dog was lying in the den, and as the screeching sounds of little Hope's violin reached his ears, he began to howl loudly.
The father listened to the dog and the violin as long as he could. Then he jumped up and yelled above the noise, "Can't you play something the dog doesn't know?!"

I was sitting in the back row during the ceremony, but managed to take a couple photos from that vantage point. Top photo shows the full auditorium that seats up to 500. The next photos is of President, Dr. Paul Li, giving his speech. The bottom photo is of Raymond and Diana To and their daughter. Raymond interned at RiverGrace.
